Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in southwestern Uganda, renowned for its exceptional biodiversity and as a sanctuary for the endangered mountain gorilla.

Overview

The park hosts nearly half of the global population of mountain gorillas, with several habituated groups available for trekking experiences . In addition to gorillas, Bwindi supports a rich variety of wildlife, including 120 species of mammals, 350 species of birds, and numerous butterflies and reptiles . Visitors can engage in activities such as guided nature walks, bird watching, and cultural encounters with local communities. The park’s rugged terrain and mist-covered hills offer a captivating backdrop for eco-tourism and conservation efforts. Accessible only on foot, Bwindi provides an immersive experience into one of Africa’s most biologically diverse ecosystems.

This “impenetrable forest” protects an predictable 320 population of mountain gorillas – approximately half of the population in the world, among which are a number of habituated groups that can be tracked by visitors. Bwindi is habitat to more than half the world’s population of Mountain Gorillas.

The word “Bwindi” means “darkness” and taking a hike in this magnificent forest will certainly unveil to you the reason why the forest was named so. Day 01 :

Arrival in Entebbe

Upon arrival in Entebbe, meet our representative and transfer to Papyrus Guest-House for an overnight stay.

Day 02 :

Drive from Entebbe to Bwindi

In the early morning after breakfast, embark on a scenic drive from Entebbe to Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla Lodge. The drive is approximately 9 to 10 hours. You will have lunch enroute, bathroom breaks and picture moments.

Day 03 :

Gorilla tracking

Gorilla tracking After breakfast with packed lunch and drinking water you will be transferred to the National Park Head Quarters for the briefing on the dos and the don’ts while with the gorillas. You then continue to the forest for the start of the actual gorilla tracking.

The beauty of this rain forest is spectacular. The area offers a dramatic, steeply forested landscape and is incredibly dense, but crisscrossed by numerous animal trails allowing access to tourists. The time taken and the terrain vary as per the movements of these great primates. The thrill of spending time observing these gentle and endangered giants is an awesome, exciting experience to be long savoured. Many find it to be a rare and moving opportunity. The tracking can take place at Nkuringo or at Rushaga (1hr drive from Nkuringo), as per the gorilla permits obtained.

Upon return, relax at the lodge and, for those who like, at 5.00 pm either stroll through the community centre or drive up to the “Top of the World” - the name given to the football field, high up in Nkuringo which offers amazing views over the peaks and forests around Nkuringo. A great way to stretch your legs after the gorilla tracking and to enjoy a sundowner.

Day 04 :

Optional activities.

On this day, you will either relax at the lodge while enjoying the stunning views of the volcanoes and the forest.

At leisure, proceed to the nearby Buniga Forest where you will engage with the Batwa tribe that formerly lived in the forest before it was gazetted as a National Park.

Day 05 :

Depart to Entebbe

After an early breakfast, you will depart for Entebbe, with occasional stopovers as may be required. Depending on your outbound flight schedule, an evening room or night in Entebbe may be required.
